Mediator Trainings

The Dispute Resolution Center offers mediator trainings once per year. Specifically we offer general civil and private practice trainings, advanced trainings, and workshops applicable to effective mediation.

40 hour General Civil Mediation Training

About

A mediator is a neutral third party who can help people in conflict find solutions and come to agreement. Mediators learn skills which can be used in personal relationships and professional situations. Participants will learn:

  • Different kinds of conflict
  • Getting past: “you’re wrong…I’m right”
  • Effective listening and recognizing non-verbal communication
  • Balancing power
  • Using neutral language to express different points of view
  • Cultural and gender issues in mediation
  • Dealing with strong emotions
  • Finding “win-win” solutions
  • Writing agreements that work
  • How to become a volunteer mediator

October 14th, 8:30am-5:30pm, online.

October 15th, 8:30am-5:30pm, online.

October 16th, 1pm-5pm, online.

October 21st, 8:30am-5:30pm, in person.

October 22nd, 8:30am-5:30pm, in person.

October 23rd, 1pm-5pm, in person.

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL SESSIONS TO RECEIVE YOUR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

Who

Educators, social service providers, health care workers, law enforcement professionals, managers, supervisors, real estate agents and community members - anyone who wants to learn about and use better conflict resolution skills in their professional and/or personal life.

Where

The first week will be held virtually on Zoom.

The second week will be held in person at the Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave Ann Arbor, MI 48108
