On Thursday May 23, 2019, the DRC held a special event to honor and celebrate the hard work and dedication that our volunteers have committed to this change making work. From our mediators, peacemakers, Board Members, and many others we are grateful to have such compassionate and caring people supporting us and our mission.
Without our volunteers, the DRC would not be able to build peaceful communities and help people navigate and resolve their conflict everyday. They are on the frontlines helping repair and rebuild relationships between friends, families, staff, and many other community members.
Our volunteers have touched the lives of 1314 people in Washtenaw & Livingston counties alone in 2018, as well as mediating 427 cases. Additionally, they have contributed 899 hours to the center that equates to a monetary value of $111,878. Now that’s impressive! Of course, the value of their time, support, and care is invaluable and we are forever grateful for all of our volunteers past, present, and future.
We also want to thank those who have donated and contributed in other ways to the DRC. Without your financial support, partnerships, and allyship our doors are open to everyone who needs us in time of crisis and conflict; those who have no other alternative; or those who rely on the DRC to help the path of their life go in a different and positive direction.
Your support helps us reunify families, keep mothers and children together, and divert individuals away from getting trapped in the criminal or juvenile justice system. Just recently, we had past clients contact us because they trust us and know that we will help them in their time of need. Our impact is long lasting because the DRC brings hope and healing into peoples’ lives.
The restorative justice approach of our work is not only about changing systems, it’s about changing lives and changing the future. We hope for a more compassionate and just world for future generations, which is why in the fall of 2019, we will be piloting the Restorative Justice Youth Leadership Council. Our vision is to build the next generation of emerging restorative justice youth leaders that can participate and be part of changing systems that incorporate the values of compassion, equity, and inclusion for all.
We hope that you will continue supporting the important work that lies ahead.
uplift the DRC and our community!
