    • The Women’s Center of Southeastern Michigan is dedicated to the economic and emotional self-determination of women, girls, and families. Women in crisis have access to low-cost help from a therapist, job coach, divorce specialist, family law attorney, or financial adviser. When women have the tools to assert their economic and emotional strengths, families and communities also thrive.

  • United Way Financial Coaching Program– United Way of Washtenaw is now partnering with TrustPlus to provide one-on-one support to help you reach your financial goals.  This service is confidential and offered at no cost to you. TrustPlus coaches can work with you on a range of financial topics, including:
      • Building credit so that you can qualify for the best credit cards, loans, or mortgage;
      • Reducing troublesome debt — from collections accounts, medical bills, and student loans; and,
      •    Budgeting and building a safety net for emergencies.
  • Free Tax Prep from the United Way- The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a national IRS-sponsored program that pairs certified volunteers with taxpayers like you to file accurate tax returns for free. United Way of Washtenaw County is proud to be an official VITA Site and assist County resident with tax-related needs.
  • The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County – This Ann Arbor Michigan charity supports the entire county. They can be contacted in Ann Arbor at 734-668-8353. The agency provides essential services and emergency aid to families and individuals of Washtenaw County. Programs include a free food pantry, soup kitchen, funds for housing expenses, clothing, a family shelter, or utility bill assistance.The charity also offer transitional housing and counseling for veterans, heating and utility bill funds, character building for youth, eviction prevention, camp programs, and emergency and disaster relief. Or kids can apply for free Christmas toys, winter coat programs, or back to school supply giveaways.
  • Washtenaw County Office Michigan Department Of Human Services runs the State Emergency Relief, or SER. The government agency offers qualified low income families, the homeless, or people facing eviction with help. Funds may be issued for paying rent, housing costs, rental security deposits, and utility deposits to prevent homelessness. Grants can also even pay moving costs. SER was intended to people avoid an eviction and assist those who are currently homeless. 22 Center Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, dial (734) 481-2000.
  • Community Services Group provides support to the working poor and less fortunate. Most of what they offer is referrals, such as to government benefits including food stamps or maybe low interest loans from non-profits that can be used for paying bills or rent. They also have information on services as wide ranging as legal support for tenants facing eviction, local shelters, or landlords that offer low income apartments. However, case managers from the group also address educational and employment needs, provide help to senior citizens or single moms, and partner with other agencies to advocate and support the disadvantaged.
  • Faith In Action – For people who have received an eviction notice or utility disconnection, this non-profit may be able to help. The organization provides financial assistance to help in paying heating, water, and electric utility bills. In addition, they will even negotiate with your landlord or utility company to make sure there is clear understanding of expectations. 603 S Main St., Chelsea, Michigan 48118(734), call 475-3305
  • Community Resource Center – This non-profit provides financial assistance, cash grants and/or referrals to help pay energy and utility bills in emergency situations. Other support from CRT will include food from a pantry, job placement, and holiday assistance. As funding allows, the agency assists with paying for electric, gas, water bills, and also oil and heating fuel. 410 City Rd., Manchester, Michigan 48158, call (734) 428-7722.
  • Saline Area Social Service – The Services are restricted to qualifying individuals residing in the Saline School District only. Those qualified residents of the district who are experiencing an unexpected financial crisis and have insufficient resources to obtain essential services may be able to qualify for temporary financial assistance. Grants and funds may be offered for electric, gas, and heating fuel bill payments, prescription drugs, gas money; rent or even property tax payments. 131 E Michigan Ave., Saline, Michigan 48176, call (734) 429-4570 only if in the district.
