48 Hour Domestic Relations Mediation Training

Approved by the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO), this training will teach you the skills necessary to mediate divorce and custody issues.   Through activities, roleplays, and interactive exercises, this training will help you to develop impactful communication and conflict management skills.  And we will have a great time while we do it!  This training includes the 8-Hour Domestic Violence Screening Training.  Along with additional requirements, this training is necessary for applying for approval on county mediation rosters.

Anyone interested in helping with family and relationship situations of pre-separation, separation, legal divorce, co-parenting, custody, guardianship, and probate matters.

  • In-Person - Friday May 16 - Sunday May 18 - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Virtual - Friday May 30 - Sunday June 1 - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

What if I can't attend all six days?
You must attend all days to receive your certificate of completion.

Brian's Bio:

Brian Pappas currently serves as Dean and Professor of Law at the University of North Dakota School of law. Previously Brian served as Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at Eastern Michigan University and as the Director of the conflict management program at Boise State University.  For ten years he worked full-time at Michigan State University’s College of Law as a Clinical Professor, Associate Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and Director of the Conflict Resolution Clinic.  In total, his teachings include over 90 ADR, law, and public administration courses. A frequent mediator and trainer, Brian has trained thousands of mediators in court, community, business, and government contexts.  Brian’s research examines formal and informal dispute systems and focuses on Title IX and dispute resolution. His 19 published works can be found in the Journal of Legal Education, the Harvard Negotiation Law Review, Law & Society Review, and others. Brian is the recipient of the State Bar of Michigan ADR Section’s 2013 George N. Bashara, Jr. Award for exemplary service. He currently serves on the Mindfulness in Law Society Board and was the Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Dispute Resolution for 2022-2023.  In July Brian will begin a new position as the Chancellor of Indiana University-South Bend.
