Mediator Trainings

The Dispute Resolution Center offers mediator trainings once per year. Specifically we offer general civil and private practice trainings, advanced trainings, and workshops applicable to effective mediation.

This is a state court administrative office (SCAO) approved training.

40 hour General Civil Mediation Training

About

A mediator is a neutral third party who can help people in conflict find solutions and come to agreement. Mediators learn skills which can be used in personal relationships and professional situations. Participants will learn:

  • Different kinds of conflict
  • Getting past: “you’re wrong…I’m right”
  • Effective listening and recognizing non-verbal communication
  • Balancing power
  • Using neutral language to express different points of view
  • Cultural and gender issues in mediation
  • Dealing with strong emotions
  • Finding “win-win” solutions
  • Writing agreements that work
  • How to become a volunteer mediator

Weekend 1: VIRTUAL

  • Friday, October 20th, 8:30am-5:30pm
  • Saturday, October 21st, 8:30am-5:30pm
  • Sunday, October 22nd, 1pm-5pm

 

Weekend 2: IN-PERSON

  • Friday, November 3rd, 8:30am-5:30pm
  • Saturday, November 4th, 8:30am-5:30pm
  • Sunday, November 5th, 1pm-5pm

 

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL SESSIONS TO RECEIVE YOUR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

Who

Educators, social service providers, health care workers, law enforcement professionals, managers, supervisors, real estate agents and community members - anyone who wants to learn about and use better conflict resolution skills in their professional and/or personal life.

Where

  • Weekend 1 will be virtual via Zoom. A link will be sent confirmed registrants 1 week before the training starts.

 

  • Weekend 2 will be IN-PERSON at the: Learning Resource Center (LRC), 4135 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48108
